The first half of the Leo Eichholtz Board has finished––Zoe Kingston is well clear of the pack, one point ahead of Glenys Mills and Alistair McGowan. A former ex-Olympiad competitor and a top rated woman’s player, Glenys played a strong game against David Paul to lessen his chances of retaining the Board for 2010. For Juniors; Christy Paul leads the field—only half a point of the dark-horse Itay Ben-Dom who has missed two games due to missing one nights play. For full results see the table below. The Leo Eichholtz Board competition continues with the Part B section, which starts 24 March.

The Leo Eichholtz Board series—30-30 minute time-frame—is now under-way and will continue throughout February and into March. Don’t forget 3 March is the Annual General Meeting (AGM) when officers will be elected and fees set.

The Club’s first night of tournament play got off to a flying start with 19 players participating in the first round of our 5-minute tournament–-there will be 4 to 5 other rounds in 2010. We welcome two new players to the club:  Mikala Nielson and Itay Ben-Dom, both juniors. Itay achieved the perfect result on the night—6 wins from 6 games–-and will be a player to watch in the senior league. Detailed results are below. New week we start the first round of the 30-30 Leo Eichholtz Board series–-a double-round swiss-format series.

Happy New Year and greetings to all

Chess starts 03 Wednesday at our new venue, the Paraparaumu Library!–-just behind the Council buildings.

We will kick off with some friendly games, have a catch-up with each other, and begin to discover our new surroundings.

See you there!
