After 2 rounds of the John Kingston Memorial Trophy the lead is shared by Glenys Mills, Todd Stewart and David Paul. It’s early days yet and there’s a lot more water to flow under the bridge with 6 more rounds to be played in this 8 round Tournament.
David Paul in his AGM Club Captain’s Report mentions an idea regarding changing our meeting night from Wednesday night to Tuesday. I would like to throw this out for discussion so please email me with your comments (which I will forward to all email capable members) and will also follow up with face-to-face discussion. -
Kapiti Chess AGM occurred. The 2012 Committee was re-elected with Mike O’Rorke replacing David Paul as Club Captain. All games for 2013 will start at 7:45 sharp. Those playing must be at the Club by 7:35. Please let Mike O’Rorke know if you will be late by phoning or texting him on 027 7345664 and he will put you into the draw. Club fees are set the same as 2012, please pay these by end of March.

Chess is now under way for 2013 with the start of our Freebird 15 minute Tournament. Four rounds were played and David Paul leads the field.
Next week—13 February—is the annual AGM where we will review last year, elect officials and set fees. Please come along and support the Club and play some casual games later. -
The 120th NZ Chess Congress was held in Wellington with the final round 11 held today. Club member David Paul played in the Major Open and finished a respectable 4th equal—well done David. Photos of the event can be found Here and full results are available Here.

End of Prize Giving was held and David Paul scooped the field getting his name on all the major trophies. Rick Lowe won the B grade trophy and Nathan Price the C grade. Photos of the Prize Giving can be found Here. The Kapiti Chess Club is now in recess and will resume playing Wednesday 6 February 2013.

The Club Championships are over. After some hard games, including a loss to Alistair McGowan, David Paul has again won the Kapiti Chess Club Title for the fifth year in a row—he is now needs to win the Trophy for two more years to better Earl Roberts six year winning streak. Next week—5 December—we play the final round of our 5 minute Blitz series, and the following week the year is completed with our Prize Giving night.
