Club update – 30 May 2024
Big congratulations to junior club member Isaiah who won the Intermediate section at the Chess Power Horowhenua regionals in Levin last Friday (photo).
Our T2 competition continued at junior club this week. After two rounds, only Daniel has full points after a good win against Jingwei on board 1. The most interesting game of the round was Tal v Isaiah (photo), which came down to an imbalanced position, with White having a pawn majority on the queenside, and Black with a knight for compensation. It was a tense struggle in which Isaiah came out on top in a time scramble. In the B-grade, Alex T, Noah, Riki and Ronan lead the pack with 2 wins from 2.
In the senior club, Gordon and Ross both had wins to remain unbeaten after 2 rounds of our annual Kingston Memorial tournament.
